Pokémon Sleep can be a deceitfully complicated game. Now that the game has been out for a few months, I decided to compile a list of tips and tricks both for beginners and as references for myself.
If you encounter a shiny helper during one of your Research Session, it will always sparkle and come to your campsite hungry! No matter how many bars need filling up to befriend it, any biscuit will immediately max out friendship.
So there is no need to waste a Master biscuit (and not even your daily Bonus one); a regular Poké biscuit is probably your best option!
Every time you befriend a new Pokémon, their species Friendship Level will go up by one. This means that once you befriend 10 Pokémon of the same species you will hit Friendship Level 10, granting you a gold Sub Skill!
From this point on, every time you befriend a Pokémon of that species, its first Sub Skill will always be a gold one, such as Berry Finding S or Skill Level Up M. (These are generally better, but, as they currently stand, not all of them are good! Dream Shard Bonus for example is currently considered a sub-par Sub Skill.)
Make sure your Friends list is fully filled out and that your friends actively play the game! You could get 50+ assorted candies from the Research Community tab.
Hitting a specific Closeness level will also grant you additional rewards:
Level 1: 1 x Handy Candy S
Level 2: 1 x Ingredient Ticket S
Level 3: 1 x Linking Cord
Level 4: 2x Ingredient Ticket S
Level 5: 2 x Handy Candy S
Tip #1: The candy that you give out to your friends depends on the photo you choose during your Research Session! You can select whichever photo you like, so make sure to choose a type of candy that you would also want to receive!
Tip #2: When the game first came out, the Linking Cord could only be used as an evolution item. Players and developers quickly realised that, with the Linking Cord being one of the Closeness rewards, users would end up with too many of them clogging their inventory. You can now use your Linking Cords by selecting them from your bag and exchanging them for candy (specifically of Pokémon that evolve by trading)!
Each week, Snorlax will have 3 favourite berries which can get you bonus points from Snorlax and feeding those exact berries is sometimes a requirement for weekly missions.
Favourite berries are randomly selected in Greengrass Isle, but they are pre-set in every other area, so you can plan accordingly if you decide to move away from Greengrass Isle.
If you are looking for Pokémon that gather Snorlax’s favourite berries for the week, there is a handy shortcut in the Pokémon Box search menu!
If you want to cook a specific dish, you can select 'Choose a Recipe' and then pick 'No Recipe'. At this point you have the chance to preview the outcome of your cooking by selecting Preview at the top of the screen.
If it’s a recipe you have never made, it will come up as a question mark!
More tips coming soon, as new features and updates are released...
